Marsha & Tom’s DIY Vintage Wedding | Dulwich Village, London

July , 2011  |  Featured Wedding, Weddings

In the month’s leading up to their wedding, Marsha had been telling me how her living room had turned into a DIY workshop and she was swamped under piles of crafting paraphernalia. I was so excited when I heard this dreaming about photographing all the lovely little details. And boy did they make stuff…understatement of the year. I arrived at the venue in Dulwich Village on the morning of the wedding and was instantly amazed. They had turned The Crown & Greyhound pub garden into a mesmerizing, colourful, super gorgeous wedding wonderland!! I had to pull myself away from photographing all the details so that I could get to the bride who was about to get into her vintage 1950′s wedding dress.

I couldn’t believe just HOW much Marsha and her helpers had made: it started at the church with the beautiful pomander ball pinata’s tied with organza ribbon hanging all the way down the aisle. Then at the venue, we had giant pom pom’s and streamers hanging in the marquee, circular tissue paper streamers in the trees that Marsha had sewn together on the sewing machine, wooden signs pointing the way to Trinidad, St Alban’s and Hong Kong, and Windsor (all places that they originate from!) sticker labels for all the sweets jars, hanging jam jar tealight holders, cushion covers and matching table cloths, the most incredible seating plan, menus, table number miniature flags…and the list goes on and on….!!!! Oh, and did I mention Marsha’s mum did ALL the flowers? Yes – her dad was telling me about their trip to the flower market at 4am on Wednesday! One word: Incredible.

They had made it look so beautiful for their friends and family, it formed the perfect backdrop to a magical day. Tom is the eldest of 11 brothers and sisters, and I must say I really enjoyed watching his siblings’ antics throughout the day – they were a party in themselves! Wearing the props for Katie and Tim’s photobooth throughout the afternoon, they were quite an infectiously funny bunch! I left the awesome party with a big smile on my face at twilight – just as the Chinese paper lanterns, hanging tealights and twinkly fairy lights were coming on. Here’s to wishing Marsha and Tom the very best for a happy, long, and DIY-filled future!
